AB Showing at the Boston Pen and Nib Show By KATE USHER | |
On Saturday and Sunday, April 3 and 4, I participated in the Boston Pen and Nib show. In exchange for giving a lecture and techniques class about Altered Books, I was given a booth at the show to display and sell my altered books and a set of note cards I had made especially for this show. Everyone was very receptive to this art form although very few had ever even heard of it. They were curious, appreciative and quite simply amazed by altered books. I gave a one hour lecture on the definition of and history of altered books and demonstrated how I go about doing a page in a book. The owner of "Pen World" magazine was there and took pictures of me with my books and said her editor would be in touch about an article. I would estimate that approximately 400 people attended the show. I had my ISABA membership logo framed and on my table and explained to anyone who would listen about the organization and about the art form. It was a very successful weekend both in getting the word out about altered books and in actually selling some of my own. ![]() |
