RED GRID (working title)- 14" x 14", MIXED MEDIA This is the most recent piece I've made in this series. I was inspired by the exercises given by Julianna Cole (see my Altered Book pages for more information on these), but I wanted to make the process my own. I painted the canvas, stamped text, collaged papers, stamped squares, drew with pencil, sewed organza and attached copper mesh all in the process of building up layers. The background board for mounting hasn't been painted yet, but because this piece incorporates so many techniques that can be used in altered books, I wanted to include it in this exhibit. I feel that this is the most successful piece so far in my attempt to bring all of my interests together in my artwork.
