SALLY TURLINGTON A retired educator and consultant, I became a self-taught mixed media artist as an adult. My work started with tole painting and quickly moved to acrylic canvases and assemblages. Collage jumped into my world one day when I stumbled into a rubber stamp store where they were having workshops on mini shrink plastic books and artist books with clay covers and coptic stitch binding. From that day, I began dabbling in all the related techniques, like book arts, mixed media works, collage, altered books, mail art, metal arts, jewelry, etc. In the near future I want to move to doing large canvases in the collage style incorporating metals but for the time being I seem to be entrenched in altered books. It is such an all-encompassing arena that I find a challenge in uncovering unlikely techniques that actually work on altered pages! My motto has become if you like it, try it on an altered page and my mantra, "She alters everything she touches and everything she touches alters her."
